In a second attack in the Gulf of Aden at 0540 UTC (08h40 local time) on 08. September 2010 Antigua&Barbuda-flagged, 735-teu boxship MV MAGELLAN STAR was targeted and boarded by pirates in position 13 23 N 049 58 E. The vessel had delivered goods to Indonesia and was on her return voyage. The ships crew locked themselves in a safe room and requested for assistance. Apparently there is at present a stand-off between the pirates and navies, which could reach the scene. Further reports are awaited. According to transport infrastructure conglomerate Asciano, a plan to maximise Swanson Dock’s capacity in the Port of Melbourne in the short term and then develop Geelong Port prior to the long-term development of Port of Hastings in 2040 will deliver the best outcomes for Victoria. Victoria’s international container port trade is currently handled at Swanson Dock in the Port of Melbourne, which has an annual capacity of 2.7 million TEU.
