Oil production running again after repair

Sun Jan 07 16:49:39 CET 2024 Timsen

The 'Alvheim' restored its production after repairs on Dec 18, 2023. The ship had caused an oil spill during the start-up of the field following an unplanned production shutdown, where one well was producing at the Alvheim field in the central North Sea on Nov 29. The downtime resulted from a malfunction in new equipment installed during maintenance activities in the previous quarter, causing a deferral of approximately one month in the production from the Alvheim area. The preliminary estimate indicates a discharge of 51 cubic metres of oil through the produced water outlet. The incident was reported to the authorities, and Aker BP?s emergency response organisation mobilised alongside the Norwegian Clean Seas Association for Operating Companies (NOFO) and the Norwegian Coastal Administration to deal with the oil on the sea surface. NOFO and the Norwegian Coastal Administration chose to use the oil spill response measure known as mechanical degradation, where the propellers of the offshore vessel 'Esvagt Stavanger' mixed the oil down into the water column until it dissolved. Satellite and aerial surveillance measures were also initiated, in addition to the standby vessel?s oil radar. The oil spill response measure proved to be highly effective, and the oil slick was significantly reduced in size as early as the next day. The Norwegian Coastal Administration, in consultation with NOFO and Aker BP, decided to end the operation on Dec 1. Reportedly, at this point, no oil was visible on the sea surface in satellite images and flyovers. The Norwegian Coastal Administration and NOFO have not reported that any harm has been caused to the environment.

FPSO Alvheim stopped production after gas leak

Mon Aug 01 11:40:59 CEST 2016 arnekiel

The FPSO ALVHEIM suffered gas leak in the pump room, which halted production at Alvheim field in the central North Sea near the UK sector. After detection of the gas leak, the production was stopped, but the 56 crew remained on board and located the exact leaking pipe. The accident was put under control for several hours without allow spills into the water and environmental pollution. The leak was stopped by the crew and later the production was restarted. Fortunately during the accident there were no injured people and water pollution, but the leak put under question the safety operation on board. The local authorities requested an inspection of the FPSO ALVHEIM, which will be done during the weekend. The investigation for the leak is under way. This is second stop of production of FPSO ALVHEIM, which suffered engine and electrical fault on one of its motors eight months ago. Then also the incident was minor without any pollution and injured people. The company operator of the FPSO informed, that there was no danger for the crew during all the time and their own decision was to stay on board and repair the leaks. The FPSO Alvheim (IMO: 9170078) has overall length of 252.00 m, moulded beam of 42.00 m and maximum draft of 15.00 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 91,676 DWT and the gross tonnage is 71,058 GRT. The FPSO ALVHEIM is owned and oeprated by Marathon Oil Norge. Source : Maritimeherald
