Sinking tug run aground
The US Coast Guard assisted the 72-foot "Antietam" which was taking on water near Port Arthur, Texas, in the evening of Feb 14, 2019. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a report that the tug was taking on water and in need of assistance. The "Antietam", which was pushing two barges, was intentionally grounded near Taylor Bayou to avoid its complete sinking. A Coast Guard Station Sabine Pass 29-foot boat was launched. Once on scene, the crew of the RB-S assisted in dewatering the vessel. There were no reports of pollution at this time. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur personnel was scheduled to assess the vessel at first light on Feb 15. The tug arrived at the TX Port in Orange the same day at 10.30 p.m.
