Burning vessel still adrift

24 crew members of the "Atlant" were rescued by nearby fishing vessels in a stormy weather, and later delivered to Severo-Kurilsk port. The body of the crew member died from asphyxiation had remained on board. The vessel reportedly was still on fire and drifting off Imushir. The salvage tug "Rubin" (IMO: 8033883) was dispatched to the trawler to monitor and if possible, to salvage the ship. The fire reportedly started in a drying compartment.

Senior foreman died in fire

A fire broke out aboard the "Atlant" fishing near the Kuril island of Simushir in the Sakhalin Region, killing a senior Foreman in the night of Dec 21, 2014. Two vessels, the "Yasny" and the "Vostok", approached the burning Atlant and took aboard the crew from the burning ship. The senior foreman suffocated in smoke and died. The master suffered two broken fingers. There was a strong storm at the site of the incident.
