Disabled trawler towed to Fishguard twice
The 'Emilia Rose - M 65' suffered engine failure and was towed back to Fishguard in a joint towing operation between New Quay RNL and Fishguard RNLI on March 3, 2020. The vessel with five crew members had got a rope wrapped around its propeller. Initially New Quay RNLI, the nearest station to the fishing vessel, responded and took the vessel under tow towards Fishguard. The Fishguard RNLI's all-weather lifeboat was dispatched at 2.50 p.m. to take over the tow which it did in the area of Cemaes Head, near Cardigan, arriving back at Fishguard harbour at 5 p.m. whereby the towline was shortened in order to bring the stricken vessel alongside the harbour quay wall at 5.20 p.m. The lifeboat then returned to its station. On March 4 the 'Emelia Rose' had encountered exactly the same problem it had the day before having a rope wrapped around its propeller. The fishing vessel 'Felsi' came to her assistance on this occasion and took the ship in tow. In this case the Fishguard lifeboat, which launched at 4 p.m., took over the tow 25 miles northeast of Fishguard and began the slow journey back to the harbour, arriving at 8 p.m. and putting the stricken fishing vessel once again alongside the quaywall before docking at 9.30 p.m. Report with photos: https://rnli.org/news-and-media/2020/march/05/new-quay-rnlis-all-weather-lifeboat-rescues-fishing-vessel
