Sailings disrupted due to yard call
Sailings to the Isle of Man ferry will be disrupted starting on Oct 30, 2022, as the 'Ben-my-Chree' will have to undergoe repairs. The 'Manannan' will undertake daytime crossings between Douglas and Heysham during the stay at the Cammell Laird's facility, which was expected to last six days. The 'Manannan', which usually undertakes passenger sailings to Liverpool during the summer months, will remain in service until Nov 7. Overnight freight sailings will be carried out by the 'Arrow' which was recently bought by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company. As a result of the changes, usual evening passenger sailings from the island to Lancashire, and the overnight return will not take place. Further details of the repair work needed have not been released.
Dock stay longer than planned
The return of the 'Ben-my-Chree' from yard maintenance at Birkenhead has been delayed. During routine inspections of the ferry in dry dock, the stern tube bearings were found to be worn more than expected. Although the wear was within tolerances, the opportunity has been taken to address this. Due to these unplanned works, and the necessity to source a company with immediate capacity to carry out the works, the docking will be extended by about six days, and the ship expected to return to services on May 13, starting with the 8.45 a.m. sailing. Until then, the fast ferry 'Manannan' will continue to operate daytime passenger services and the 'Arrow' will undertake a Freight Only service overnight.
Sailings cancelled due to silt build up
Sailings of the Isle of Man Steam Packet were called off for the ro-pax Ben-my-Chree due to silt build up in Douglas Harbour on March 30, 2021. The Steam Packet Company has pulled the 8.45 a.m. crossing to Heysham and the return journey at 2.15 p.m. Tthe silt combined with an extremely low tide was to blame. Overnight sailings were also affected with the 'Ben-my-Chree' delayed leaving Heysham.
