Security guard recovered dead from the sea

Mon Apr 05 14:11:17 CEST 2021 Timsen

A 42-year-old man working as a security guard on the 'Bhagavathi Prem' was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the sea at Guddekopala on April 5, 2021. The deceased was identified as Shankar, a local resident. The company had deployed private security guards to guard the stranded dredger. There were two other security guards in the dredger. The exact cause for the death had yet to be ascertained. A case has been registered at the Surathkal police station.

Dredger will not be removed before monsoon season

Tue May 26 22:17:48 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 'Bhagvati Prem' which was beached by New Mangalore Port Trust on Surathkal beach after water ingress in the engine room on Oct 28, 2019, to avoid its sinking on the lines of another dredger, the 'Tridev Prem' which got lost 2.5 nautical miles away from the shore on Sep 3, 2019, was likely to remain there at least until after the monsoon season 2020. The owner of the vessels did not respond to notices by NMPT and Director General of Shipping to safely remove both the vessels. Consequently, NMPT was in the process of auctioning the 'Bhagvati Prem'. The public notice for auction of the vessel was issued in April. The reserve price too has been finalised. Government auctioneer MSTC would conduct the auction, however, the situation arising out of COVID-19 had delayed the process. The dredger is stuck broadside on the the Surathkal beach. Dredger to be removed

Tue Dec 03 09:41:08 CET 2019 Timsen

On Dec 2 the owner of the 'Bhagvati Prem', Mercator, has been given one week to inspect the vessel to assess the damages it suffered. Also, the Director General of Shipping was aware of the situation. Mercator will send a team to inspect the vessel and later carry out repairs before towing the stricken vessel off. The dredger was grounded at the Surathkal Beach on Oct 28 after it suffered a flooding following a damage to the hull. The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has served the owner of the vessel with a notice regarding the removal of the vessel from the sea.
