Long range medevac off St. Paul

Fri Nov 11 10:38:07 CET 2016 Timsen

A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew, forward deployed to Forward Operating Location Cold Bay, medevaced an injured fisherman off "Blue North" approximately 230 miles northwest of St. Paul, Alaska, in the evening of Nov 9, 2016. Coast Guard 17th District watchstanders received a maritime medevac request from the "Blue North" in the afternoon. The vessel's operator reported a crewmember had injured his neck while working aboard the vessel. Watchstanders consulted the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac. The "Blue North" was approximately 285 miles northwest of St. Paul at the time of notification and the crew was instructed by watchstanders to transit toward St. Paul in order to be in hoist range of the helicopter aircrew. Two Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak HC-130 Hercules crews were launched to the scene to provide coverage for the Jayhawk aircrew. The Jayhawk crew hoisted the 41-year-old man and transferred him to an awaiting Air Station Kodiak C-130 Hercules airplane crew in St. Paul who transported him to Anchorage for medical care. Weather on scene was reported as 25-mph winds with 10-foot seas. Report with video: http://www.uscgnews.com/go/doc/4007/2899566/

Tue Sep 20 09:49:20 CEST 2016 arnekiel

Seattle-based company Blue North has christened F/V Blue North, a state-of-the-art vessel designed to transform the fishing industry by improving conditions for workers, reducing environmental impact and harvesting seafood more humanely. Designed with sustainability in mind, the new longliner is geared specifically for the Alaskan cod fishery, built by Dakota Creek Industries, Inc. of Anacortes, Wash. from a design (ST-155L) by Norwegian firm Skipsteknisk AS. The result, according to Blue North: “the most modern, low-impact and innovative vessel to ever enter the North Pacific fishing fleet.” The new fish harvesting vessel, christened September 9 at the Port of Seattle's Fishermen's Terminal, features a number of novel technologies that aim minimize environmental impact and improve the quality of harvested seafood as well as working conditions for fishermen. http://www.marinelink.com/news/transform-fishing-vessel415598.aspx
