Bursting pipe injured three
Three people were injured on Sep 3, 2018, after a pipe burst on the "C.R. McCaskill" located off the Grant Avenue in Seaside Heights. The Coast Guard received a report at 2:40 p.m. after the suction pipe at the stern ruptured. The men all sustained minor injuries. They were taken off by a shuttle boat of the dredging company Weeks Marine, about 3:30 p.m. in Point Pleasant Beach, two of the men on back boards. The third man walked off the shuttle on his own, his head bandaged. Dozens of rescuers and Coast Guard personnel responded in Point Pleasant Beach, including first responders from Brielle, Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach. The Cranford-based Weeks Marine has been working for months on a $128-million beach replenishment project overseen by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that will expand beaches from the Manasquan to Barnegat inlets. Work has been ongoing over the last few weeks in both Ortley Beach and Seaside Park, with sand pumped onshore from offshore dredges.
