Crew fined for drug trafficing
The court of Lille sentenced nine Ukrainian sailors to 5-8 years in jail for drug trafficking after the "Carib Palm" was intercepted by French forces on Dec 10, 2015 off Boulogne-sur-Mer, and taken to the port for a search. The ship was en route from the Dominican Republic to Poland, allegedly for repairs, via Cartagena. The French Coast Guard found the freighter suspicious, and ordered it to enter Boulogne-sur-Mer. A dogs search didn’t detect anything suspicious, but continuing search found a hiding place with 2.3 ton of 75%-pure cocaine in it. Back then, it was a record drug bust for French law enforcement. The crew said they were ordered by captain to load the cocaine, when the ship stopped off the of Venezuela coast on Nov 16. They were recruited by a fictitious crewing agency, registered in Marshall Islands and bearing a fake name. The sailors were also sentenced to pay a fine of 75 million Euro. The ship remained at Boulogne until dismantled started in Brest on March 25, 2019.
Freighter drydocked for dismantling
In the late afternoon of March 25, 2019, the "Carib Palm" and the "Ocean Jasper" were towed from the eastern dock of the 5th basin in Brest to form 1, where they were drydocked to be demolished by Navaleo, a division of the group Les Recycleurs Bretons. The work should begin soon after the arrival of deconstruction equipment, including a large crawler crane that arrived at the site in the morning of March 26. Carib Palm arrived in Brest for dismantling
In the morning of Aug 14, the "Carib Palm" arrived in Brest, coming from Boulogne-sur-Mer, where it had been taken in tow on Aug 11 by the "TSM Kermor". The ship has since been docked alongside the "Ocean Jasper" at the East pier of the 5th basin. The two ships will be dismantled by the Breton Recyclers, via its subsidiary Navaleo.
