14 migrants repatriated
The US Coast Guard repatriated 14 migrants to the Dominican on Oct 23, 2ß23, following the interdiction of a grossly overloaded makeshift vessel in Mona Passage waters off the west coast of Puerto Rico. One other Dominican man interdicted in the group remaineds in federal custody and was facing federal prosecution at the U.S. District Court in Puerto Rico on a charge of attempted illegal re-entry into the United States under 8 U.S.C. 1326. During the interdiction, a U.S. Border Patrol agents reported sighting an irregular, unlawful migration voyage off the coast of Aguadilla in the early morning of Oct 22. A responding Puerto Rico Police Joint Forces of Rapid Action marine unit interdicted the suspect vessel as the 'Donald Horsley' and the 'Heriberto Hernandez' arrived on scene. Following the interdiction, the 'Heriberto Hernandez' embarked 15 Dominican nationals, 14 men and a woman, and transported them to Dominican Republic territorial waters where they were transferred to a Dominican Republic Navy vessel for repatriation. The remaining migrant was transported to Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, where U.S. Border Patrol Ramey Sector agents received custody.
31 migrants repatriated
Coast Guard crews repatriated 31 migrants to the Dominican Republic on oct 19, following the interdiction of an overloaded vessel in Mona Passage waters off the west coast of Puerto Rico, Wednesday. Three of the repatriated migrants were interdicted in separate irregular migration voyage events earlier in the week. During the interdiction, a Puerto Rico Police Joint Forces of the Rapid Action marine unit interdicted a 27-foot migrant vessel with 28 migrants, approximately six nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The 'Heriberto Hernandez' arrived on scene shortly thereafter and embarked 25 men and three women, who claimed to be Dominican Republic nationals.
73 migrants repatriated to Dominican Republic
The US Coast Guard crews repatriated 73 migrants to the Dominican Republic between Oct 14 and Oct 18, following the interdiction of five overloaded vessels in Mona Passage waters off the west coast of Puerto Rico. During an interdictions on oct 16, the 'Heriberto Hernandez' interdicted a vessel with nine migrants, approximately 12 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The 'Heriberto Hernandez' also interdicted a second migrant boat with 11 migrants, approximately 53 nautical miles, north of Aguadilla. Fifteen migrants from these two cases were repatriated to the Dominican Republic on Oct 17. On Oct 15, the 'Heriberto Hernandez' interdicted a migrant vessel with 16 migrants, approximately six nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Fourteen migrants from this group were repatriated to a Dominican Republic Navy vessel on Oct 17. On Oct 14, the 'Joseph Napier' interdicted a migrant vessel with 38 migrants, approximately 88 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Thirty six migrants from this group were repatriated to a Dominican Republic Navy vessel on Oct 17. On Oct 13, a Puerto Rico Police Joint Force of Rapid Action Marine Unit interdicted a migrant vessel, approximately two nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. The 'Heriberto Hernandez' arrived on scene and embarked the migrants, who were repatriated to the Dominican Republic on Oct 14.
