MOB operation on last watch before retirement

Tue Nov 30 09:27:37 CET 2021 Timsen

Washington State Ferries Captain Tom Tilton, 68, could hardly believe the "man overboard" call as he piloted the 'Chimacu,' from Bremerton to Seattle on his last watch after 25 years on Nov 25, 2021. A woman had gone overboard about 5 p.m. as the ferry approached Duwamish Head. Tilton ordered the vessel stopped and headed for the pilothouse on the other end. A ferry worker had tossed a lighted life ring into the water as the others spotted the woman in the water off the side closest to the shoreline. Crew members hopped into an inflatable rescue boat and pulled her out of choppy waters. She was taken to an awaiting ambulance at the ferry terminal and is expected to survive.

Woman jumped over board and was rescued

Tue Nov 17 11:53:06 CET 2020 Timsen

On Nov 16, 2020, at 2 pm. a woman jumped off the 'Chimacum'. She was found in the water by two fishermen, brought to shore and was subsequently taken to the St. Michael Medical Center in stable condition. She told police that she had jumped from the ferry. A Coast Guard search was kicked off in Rich Passage when Washington State Ferries crew members found an unaccompanied backpack on the vessel and found security footage of her going overboard.

Collision in Bremerton

Wed Apr 03 12:30:34 CEST 2019 Timsen

The Kitsap Transit foot ferry "Admiral Pete" collided with the "Chimacum" on March 29, 2019, in Bremerton, resulting in the Annapolis-Bremerton foot ferry service to be canceled until further notice due to the lack of a backup vessel. The 122-passenger vessel serves the Annapolis-Bremerton route during commute hours and the Port Orchard and Bremerton route during the middle of the day. There were no passengers aboard the foot ferry at the time of the incident. The collision took place when the "Admiral Pete" was pulling away from its berth. No one was injured, but the foot ferry sustained damage to its starboard aft corner. The U.S. Coast Guard and the tour company were conducting an investigation into the incident. Kitsap Harbor Tours has informed Kitsap Transit that the "Admiral Pete" will not be available for service until it has been cleared by the Coast Guard. The "Carlisle II" will operate the Port Orchard-Bremerton route in full capacity until further notice on a drop and go basis during commuting hours.
