Sunken Condor raised and taken to Rostock
In the evening of Mar 7 at 8.30 p.m. the wreck of the "Condor" was finally lifted off Fehmarn and placed onto the deck of the "Sanne A" onto which it was transported to Rostock-Warnemünde during the night. On Mar 8 at 10 a.m. the convoy with the "Mira A" berthed at the terrain of the water and shipping authority where experts will investigate thre reason for the sinking in the forthcoming days. From outside only little damage was visible. The life raft had opened partially but got stuck on the roof of the wheelhouse. Salvage delayed throughout the day
Salvage of the "Condor" had to be postponed several times on Mar 7 due to inclement weather with high swell and winds of five Beaufort which forced the "Sanne A" to change position after the lifting slings were fixed at the wreck. In the evening divers were again sent down to check the situation on the bottom. Salvage work was to continue into the night. First the hull was to be lifted one meter above the bottom in a depth of 22 meter to check if any nets were left, before it would be placed onto the salvage vessel and taken to Rostock. Salvage of Condor has started
In the morning of Mar 6 the salvage of the "Condor" by the Danish sheerleg "Sanne A" has commenced. Five divers prepared the wreck with assistance of the multi purpose ship "Mira A" and fixed slings of one meter breadth. Once the wreck was afloat, probably on Mar 7, it was to be transported to Rostock. The police boat "Staberhuk" from Heiligenhafen and the multi purpose ship "Scharhörn" from Kiel established a security zone of 1000 meters around the sinking site, the latter having the on-scene-command too.
