Wreck removal to start
Removal attempts of the "Caraka Jaya Niaga 316" which sprang aleak on Nov 5, 2013, and sank with cargo of 3500 tons cement on board on Nov 6 in the waters of the Meneng District off the village Ketapang in Kalipuro, East Java, were due to start. The vessel was half submerged after it sank because of water ingress. It was still unclear whether the wreck would be removed in one section or scrapped on the spot. First the cargo would have to be removed. The plans were to be finalized within three to five months. The foreship and parts of the superstructure were still emerging above water.
