Down North up in East again
In the morning of Feb 16, 2017, the "Down North" was raised from the bottom of the Szczecin port. The salvage was carried out using the floating crane "Lodbrok" and lasted two hours. The yacht was pumped out once having resurfaced. The vessel had been moored at a marina on Grodzka Island. The owner, however, was obliged by the Żeglugę Szczecińską to remove her no later than the end of February. Down North to be raised in a few days
Originally scheduled for Feb 13, the salvage of the "Down North" in the Szczecin marina across the bridge to the isle of Grodzka will be carried out in a few days. Arrangements were still being made on the timing and method of raising of the wreck. The Polish owner of the yacht arrived in Szczecin and talked with representatives of the Maritime Office. Once the "Down North" has been raised, the water will be pumped out and the fault removed that caused the sinking of the unit. Currently it was not possible to pull the boat ashore, since the Old Town Quay was undergoing renovations. The small oil slick has been removed by the fire department. Down north down again
The "Down North" sank in Szczecin at the waterfront marina on Feb 11, 2017, around 9 p.m. Only the two masts were protruding from the water with a list to starboard. Air was bubbling from the wreck. The accident happened during repair works after her previous sinking. A stain of fuel was observed on the water. The yacht had on board about 300 liters fuel, The firefighters were alerted, and divers descended into the water to see if there was anyone on board which was not the cased. The padlock was closed. A valve in one of the three toilets could have ruptured causing the boat to sink. Oil booms were laid out, and the wreck was to be raised on Feb 13.
