Mon Mar 17 20:43:04 CET 2014 Timsen

On Mar 15, 2014, at 9.20 p.m. the "Johanna" was caught by a wind gust while leaving the small south lock of the Kiel Canal in Brunsbüttel westbound. The ship allided with the jetty 1. It suffered only minor damage. Police will carry out its investigations once the ship is passing the Kiel Canal again. It was enroute from Kokkola to Antwerp and morred in the Vrasen Dock on Mar 17 at 3 a.m.

Johanna pierced by column of rig

Thu Dec 29 13:32:59 CET 2011 Timsen

The Danish jack up rig "Aarsleff Jack 3" (MMSI-No.: 219013857) was found to have pierced the bow of the "Johanna" in the night of Dec 19 south of Gedser. The crew first had assumed that the crash and the sharp jolt that went through the ship came from the meter-high waves it struggled through the storm. Only the next morning it became clearer what had happened. For several days it was a great mystery what caused the incident. The hole has a diameter of 1.1 meters on the starboard side, where the steel was bent inward. On deck, the steel was bent outward. The object which penetrated the ship has thus struck it from below with fierce power. The German authorities investigating the matter now came to the conclusion that it probably was a severed leg of the jack-up barge which penetrated the hull. A few hours before the incident, the Danish tug "Westsund" (IMO: 7822421) was pulling the jack-up barge "Aarsleff Jack 3" in this region. During the storm the barge lost one of its 36 meter-long support legs. The column probably sank after having been hit by the "Johanna" which was unable to trace the object with radar. Probably the column sank after the collision. The "Johanna" proceeded to the port of Karlskrona where it was temporarily repaired before the voyage went on to Finland. Permanent repairs will be carried out at Lindenau Yard Kiel in January 2012. The damaged "Aarslef Jack 3" is now in Copenhagen in the South Refshale Basin. The rig had departed from Gedser on Dec 18 and reached Copenhagen on Dec 20.
