Grounding on maiden voyage

Fri Dec 16 18:27:16 CET 2016 Timsen

What was supposed to be the maiden voyage of the "Fastcat M11" bound for Cebu was cut short when it ran aground minutes after it left the Tubigon port in Bohol in the early evening of Dec 15, 2016. There was shaking and a loud noise before the captain announced the vessel had actually run aground. Although the engine stopped, the lights on the vessel were still working. The vessel was ferrying 69 people, including crew members and captain Vicion Cadlina. The ship, also carrying some cargo, departed the port at around 5:50 p.m. only to hit the rocky seabed 20 minutes into its travel. As of 8:30 p.m. the vessel remained stuck +five nautical miles away from Tubigon port when it ran aground..+ However, all passengers were safe. Members of the Philippine Coast Guard based in Tubigon were in the area to assist passengers who wanted to go back to the port. But most passengers opted to stay onboard the vessel and waited for the sea level to rise, expectedly at around 10 p.m., as advised by the vessel's captain. But before 10 p.m. the vessel already was floating again and sailed back to Tubigon port as per instruction of the PCG. The Tagbilaran station will investigate the incident.
