Trawler refloated 10 days after grounding
The "Estran" was refloated in the night of Jan 30. The vessel was docked in the port of Saint-Guénolé. The three lifeboats "Prince d'Eckmühl" from Penmarc'h, the "Men Meur" from Guilvinec and "Margodig" from Loctudyand as well as boat of SOS Plongée were mobilized since Jan 30 6 a.m. and continued their efforts at 8 p.m. after the work was temporarily suspended. The trawler had been sealed and already moved during the afternoon. It was righted and stabilized with Lifting bags. It could be successfully dewatered during the night hours. While the hull was not damaged, the damage inside was significant because everything was flooded. Damage was estimated to be 1.5 million Euros according to the shipowner, and several months of work would be required. Grounded trawler capsized
In the morning of Jan 20, 2014, around 10 a.m. the "Estran" ran aground off its homeport Saint Guénolé as it left for a trip to Ireland. It seemed that during the recent storms, channel buoys have moved causing the ship to get stuck. Despite the assistance of an SNSM-lifeboat, maneuvers to refloat the vessek were unsuccessful. Instead the ship rolled over onto its starboard side and was flooded. The crew of five was safely evacuated by fire fighters. An oil boom was laid out around the vessel. Two lifeboats from Penmarc’h and Guilvinec jointly with another fishing vessel tried in vain to get the ship off, and the attempts were suspended on Jan 22 at 3 p.m. as a suitable tide was needed which was not expected before Jan 29/30. A fireboat from Brest arrived at the port on Jan 21 and drained the fuel tanks. Local fishers took off some equipment of the distressed ship.
