Medevac off Stellendam
On Mar 18, 2014, KRRM-boat "Antoinette" medevaced a wounded fisher man from board the "Maria". The lifeboat was alerted at 9.30 p.m. and proceeded to the fishing vessel. The man who had sufferd a broken shoulder blade and fracutred ribs was taken to the port of Stellendam for further urgent treatment. On scene there was a wave height of 2 to 2,5 meters which made it more difficult for the patient and for the crew.
Rudder damaged and anchor lost in grounding
The "Maria - GO 20", which had run aground when passing the Slijkgat near Stellendam on Dec 5, 2013, was assisted by the KNRM-boat "Antoinette" from the station Stellendam. The ship had come back early from the North Sea to seek shelter from the NW storm but got stuck near buoy 10 in the Slijkgat. The "Antoinette" left port at 3 p.m. and was quickly on the spot but failed to pull off the trawler due to the strong wind and high waves this time it failed. At 01.00 at night the "Maria" floated off, but went adrift due to rudder damage in the fairway. Though she still had propulsion, she was unable to head for Stellendam. The "Antoinette" quickly returned and made a number of attempts to establish a towing connection. Because of the bad weather with waves 3 to 4 meter high and strong winds, the towing cable snapped several times, while the fishing vessel drifted further and further towards the beach from the Kwade Hoek. After several hours the lifeboat managed to get the fishing vessel into deeper water supported by the propeller of the "Maria". The towing connection broke a number of times, but at 6 a.m. the port of Stellendam was reached. Besides the rudder damage the vessel also had lost one of its anchors.
