Tue Nov 19 10:05:34 CET 2013 Timsen

The US Coast Guard medevaced a crew member of the "APL Tokyo" 230 miles off the coast of central Oregon after he sustained burns on Nov 17, 2013. He was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Pacific Area command center received a call from the "APL Tokyo" after their second engineer came into contact with hot oil. They contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard District 13 command center at approximately 11:30 p.m., on Nov 16, who began coordinating with the captain of the "APL Tokyo" and crewmembers from Air Station Astoria, Ore., and Air Station Sacramento to medevac the injured off the ship. The captain of the "APL Tokyo" was instructed to bring the ship closer to the Oregon coast. From the Air Station Astoria an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched and from the Air Station Sacramento a C-130 Hercules plane took off to act as air support.
