Ferry refloated and towed to port
The KMP 'Amadea' has been successfully refloated on Dec 30 and was towed to the port of Bakauheni. Truck drivers requested to be compensated as the incident caused them delays in their deliveries, to which the shipping company agreed to do. The ferry had run aground in the waters off Kandang Lunik Island in Lampung Province in vicinity 05 50 59 S, 105 48 18 E, in the evening of Dec 29 in bad weather conditions.
Ferry grounded on uninhabited island
On Dec 29, 2021, the KMP 'Amadea' ran aground with 342 passengers and 97 vehicles in board off the uninhabited Kandang Lunik Island, Lampung, while serving the serving the Bakauheni Sumatra – Merak Java route. The ferry had departed from Pier 3 in Bakauheni Port at 10 p.m. and got stuck ten minutes later. On Dec 30 at 8 a.m. the situation was unchanged. There had been no food and beverage assistance from the ship or ASDP Bakauheni so the passengers complained of starvation meanwhile. Two tugs were deployed to assist.
