Pusher tug heavily damaged in collision
The "Herkules XII" (EU-No.: 04003960), being underway with four barges, was heavily damaged in a collision with a cargo barge on the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal at Wijk near Duurstede on Jan 8, 2019, aronud 9 p.m. No one was injured, but the stern of the tug was crushed, and the ship suffered water ingress. Divers of the fire brigade have patched the leak temporarily with the help of the crew. Later, experts came to finish the work. The fire brigade has installed pumps to pump the water out of the tug. Around midnight the situation was under control. Nothing was known yet about the exact cause of the accident. For the time being, ship traffic on the canal was not hampered. The barges of the "Herkules XII" were disconnected after the accident. The cargo barge suffered damage above the waterline.
