Ferry sold to local entrepreneur
The "Hiyu" was sold in March 2017 by Washington State Ferries to a local business owner who intended to use the vessel as a floating entertainment venue on Lake Union.
No bidder for surplus ferry
The "Hiyu" fetched not a single bid on Oct 19, 2016, but the Washington State Ferries hoped it can find a buyer before she is sold for scrap. That could mean advertising on a national listing site or taking a second look at its price. The "Hiyu" was up for auction on a surplus site. The vessel’s minimum bidding price was $300,000. The state requires bidders to submit a plan describing where they will take the ship. The "Hiyu" also requires a crew of five people to operate legally. Another ferry, the "Evergreen State", was also listed for surplus sale.
Old ferries put up for auction
WSF has decided to get rid of the ferries "Evergreen State" and "Hiyu". Both ferries were now listed in an online auction, the Evergreen State with a $450,000 minimum, the Hiyu with a $300,000 minimum. As of Oct 4, 2016, no one had made a bid. If there are no bidders for the ferries up for auction, the state will regroup and figure out what to do next.
