Five stowaways found on board
Five stowaways were caught aboard the 'Jane' at the Apapa-Lagos anchorage on Sep 25, 2021, with the intention of travelling to Europe. They had gained access through the rudder compartment and were arrested by a NNS Beecroft patrol team during a routine harbour patrol. They had come from different parts of the country to Lagos in search of greener pastures. The stowaways were handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service for further investigation and prosecution. The tanker left Lagos the same day, headed to Lome.
Tanker attacked off Lagos
The 'Jane', enroute from Las Palmas to Lagos, was attacked in the Gulf of Guinea 85 miles southsouthwest of Lagos on Nov 11, 2020, at 1.20 a.m. The ship’s movements became erratic as she was undertaking evasive manoevers which continued during the night. The tanker finally managed to escape the attacker, who aborted their boarding attempt, and continued its voyage to Lagos where it moored in pos. 06° 19.42' N 003° 22.14' E.
