Tug and barge aground
The "Kelly Ovayuak" ran aground in the evening of July 26, 2016, on the Great Slave Lake four kilometers outside Lutselk’e in the Northwest Territories. The tug and its barges were heading back from Lutselk’e after delivering supplies to the remote community when it ran hard aground. The wind was blowing toward the reef the evening after the barges finished unloading supplies and fuel to the community. While the barges cleared the reef, the tug stuck on it. No reports of injuries or pollution were released. The Canadian Coast Guard and other authorities have been notified and a response team was dispatched to the scene in order to return the vessels to Hay River. NTCL made all its deliveries to Lutselk'e, including fuel to the N.W.T. government, before the incident. Another tug from Yellowknife was expected to arrive on July 29.
