Dead bodies found on a stairway

Tue Jun 24 11:09:50 CEST 2014 Timsen

Two two decomposing bodies, believed to be stowaways, were found on the "King Sugar" in Durban harbour on June 22, 2014, shortly after it docked at the Maydon Wharf. They were discovered by the ship's engineer on a stairway leading to one of the vessel’s hatches. The cause of death was unknown and the bodies have not been identified. The ship had sailed from San Lorenzo on May 28 with a spell at Cape Town from June 13-16. The TNPA immediately notified the relevant authorities after the bodies were found. The police and the South African Maritime Safety Association launched an investigation. An inquest docket has been opened.
