Eyemouth and Dunbar lifeboats assist disabled trawler

Fri Feb 05 11:31:12 CET 2016 Timsen

Two RNLI lifeboats were involved in a joint operation on Feb 3, 2016, in order to help the "L’Ogien", which had suffered engine failure and required assistance. The Kirkwall registered trawler was fishing to the east of Torness when it developed a problem with its engine which resulted in the trawler requiring a tow back to its base port of Eyemouth. Due to its location, Dunbar RNLI lifeboat were initially requested to launch at 12.45 p.m. and were quickly on scene to take the L’Ogien under tow back to Eyemouth, where they then had to wait for sufficient tide so that the trawler could safely enter harbour. Eyemouth RNLI lifeboat were then requested to launch around 5.50 p.m. and were quickly in position to take over the tow of the "L’Ogien" from Dunbar lifeboat, who in turn, secured a stern tow and acted a brake due to the size of the trawler, the narrow entrance to Eyemouth harbour and the slight swell at the harbour entrance. Once the tide had filled, Eyemouth lifeboat then towed the "L’Ogien" back in to the safety of the harbour, with both lifeboats working together to ensure that the trawler was secured alongside around 8 p.m. Report with photo: http://rnli.org/NewsCentre/Pages/Eyemouth-and-Dunbar-lifeboats-help-disabled-trawler.aspx
