Detention of accused crew members extended

Thu Apr 06 20:49:03 CEST 2023 Timsen

The five crew members from the 'Inger Katrine', who were charged with the murder of a sixth crew member, the 41-year-old fisherman Alf Villum Jensen, while fishing in the North Sea at the end of January, have had their detention extended by another month. All the accused pleaded not guilty. One of the crew members has previously been convicted of murder and was released on parole shortly before he hired the cutter. The detention has been extended until April 26.

Crew suscpected of murder continued fishing despite police order

Tue Feb 14 09:25:12 CET 2023 Timsen

Although a crew member was transported lifeless ashore by helicopter and later declared deadl and the police had ordered the crew to immediately seek a port, the crew of the 'Inger Katrine' had continued their fishing in the North Sea. The five crew members, who are now in custody charged with murdering the sixth crew member, the 41-year-old fisherman Alf Villum Jensen, were in no hurry to seek port, despite an order from the police, and continued to fish instead. The police received a call from the cutter on Jan 30 at 5.12 a.m. that they had a lifeless man on board. He was picked up by a helicopter the same day, but the cutter did not arrive in port until Feb 1. The police found the death suspicious and were ready to arrest the five crew members when they reached the port in Thyborøn. The five were remanded in custody for four weeks, but all pleaded not guilty and appealed against the imprisonment, which was later upheld by the High Court. It has since emerged that one of the remand prisoners has previously been convicted of murder and was released on parole shortly before he boarded the cutter.

One crew member was already convicted of murder before

Tue Feb 07 18:17:38 CET 2023 Timsen

One of the five crew members on board the 'Inger Katrine', who is charged with jointly killing a sixth crew member, has previously been convicted of murder, and had been paroled shortly before. The crew member in question pleads not guilty, along with the other accused, but the Vestre Landsret chose on Feb 6 to uphold a remand order. The killed crew member, a 41-year-old man, was on board the vessel for the first time. The police believe that the murder was committed between January 28 at 8 a.m. and January 30 at 5 a.m. - and according to the police, happened 60 nautical miles from the shore. The victim had numerous injuries, including signs of strangulation.
