Remnants of landing craft washed ashore

Remnants of the 'LAdy Athena' washed ashore, after the landing craft sank off the coast of Araceli town near Cambari Island on Nov 25. Members of the Palawan Coast Guard's SAR team wre conducting th eanalysis on the assorted goods and commodities which have been scattered on the rocky shoreline of the northeast part of Cutad Island, approximately 2,5 miles from the Araceli port. The cargo deck was flooded by incoming water and the stability of the vessel was compromised. Also, the ramp was likely to have been leaking or being severely damaged, which contributed to the sinking. Three personnel from the company of the landing craft held a meeting with the Mayor of Araceli in Palawan on Nov 25 to discuss the search operations for the missing crew members. They also talked about what needed to be done in order to avoid additional accidents caused by the sinking of the vessel, such as the cleanup of the cargo and other debris floating in the sea.

Landing craft sank, two missing, 15 rescued

The 'Titan' of the Philippine Coast Guard rescued 15 crew members of the LCT 'Lady Athena' which sank off Cambari Island in Araceli, Palawan, on Nov 25, 2020, at 3.30 p.m., battered by high waves amid stormy weather. They were brought to the Coast Guard Sub-Station in Araceli, Palawan. The master and the chief engineer were missing. The SAR operation was called offon Nov 26 due to unfavourable weather conditions and resumed on Nov 27 once the weather had improved. Remnants of the vessel washed ashore on the rocky shoreline of the northeast part of Cutad Island on Nov 27.
