Ferry saved distressed migrants

Tue Sep 03 11:23:00 CEST 2019 Timsen

In the morning of Sep 1, 2019, the 'Méditerranée' saved 18 distressed migrants, eight of them minors, off Mallorca which had been adrift for four days after the engine of their boat had failed. The tanker "Clyde Fisher" had remarked the boat 63 mils SE of the southern tip of Mallorca and alerted Salvamento Marítimo. Then the ferry which was enroute to Marseille was contacted to carry out the rescue as she was better suited for this purpose. The castaways were taken aboard the ferry and then transferred onto the "Saiph" which was deployed by Salvamento Marítimo and which took them to the port of Alcúdia, from where they were transported to Palma in the run of the day.
