Tue Jun 02 13:07:19 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 'Costa Atlantica' has left Nagasaki on 31 May, after a one-month long quarantine. The ship was on its way to Manila now. In April, Japanese officials have reported 57 additional cases of Covid-19 on the 'Costa Atlantica', bringing the total number of cases on the ship to 148. There were 623 crew members onboard. The ship only carried crew and there are no passengers.

Cruise ship expected to leave Nagasaki end of May

Fri May 15 12:30:31 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 'Costa Atlantica' was expected to leave Japan by the end of the month, the prefectural government said on May 14. Costa Cruises was working with relevant parties to finalize the exact date and other details. A total 149 out of 623 crew members aboard the vessel, docked for repairs at a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. plant in Nagasaki city, have tested positive for the virus after the first case was confirmed on April 20. 287 crew from the vessel have returned home, including groups of Indonesian, Filipino and other crew members who tested negative for the virus. One of the latest two returnees has tested negative for COVID-19 after recovering from the virus, becoming the first recovered patient from the ship who has left Japan,. The Nagasaki University was conducting retesting at the request of the ship's operator, which will proceed to disembark more crew members who test negative for COVID-19.

Repatriation of healthy crew commenced

Thu May 07 12:36:47 CEST 2020 Timsen

The process of repatriating healthy crew members of the 'Costa Atlantica' who have tested negative for the coronavirus has commenced on May 4. The cruise ship has been docked in Nagasaki since January for maintenance work. Officials have completed testing for all 630-plus crew members on board, with 149 total workers testing positive for COVID-19 as of May 4. Crew members have been staying in single-occupancy rooms and self-quarantining to prevent the spread. The Carnival Corporation & plc subsidiary flew 44 Indonesian employees home on May 4 and arranged repatriation for 125 Filipinos, four British, six Malaysian, one Korean and one American on May 5. They kept working on the transportation arrangements for crews who have completed a 14-day observation period on board in order to bring them home safely by flight as soon as possible. At least one person became seriously ill and had to be medically disembarked from the ship.
