Wreck removal to be completed by end of the month
The company Efekan Söküm Firması was dismantling the 'Pallada'. The company had received the dismantling permits on Dec 19, 2023, and started the process on Dec 21. During the work, the weather conditions were not very suitable, but the plan was to finish it around the end of February or mid-March, weather permitting. The difficult part of the ship has been finished by mid-February. Wreck removal underway
The remaining bunker and lubrication fuel from the 'Pallada' has been pumped from the wreck onto shore-based trucks. Additional environmental precautions were taken during the fuel removal operation by local teams. The Harbour Master issued an official wreck removal letter to the vessel agent to initiate salvage operations. An agreement was signed between the vessel's H&M insurance company and the owners. Subsequently, shore mobile cranes and technical teams were appointed and attended the incident site. Dismantling and cutting operations commenced at the end of December from both sea and shore sides. The entire operation was scheduled to complete in February. The accommodation block dismantling and cutting were being carried out by appointed teams as of Jan 10, 2024. Ship broke in two after grounding
The 'Pallada' broke in two at Ereğli anchorage off the Turkish Black Sea coast east of Istanbul, on Nov 19, 2023. The ship had arrived at the anchorage on Nov 8 en route from Odessa. During a storm with peak winds of 75 knots, the anchor dragged, and it drifted ashore, where it broke in two with the foreship sinking. The stern section was pushed onto the shore. All 13 crewmembers were safely rescued by Coast Guard, fire brigade and other respnsders onto the shore. The last detentions of the vessel were on Oct 11 in Kocaeli with 24 deficiencies for 10 days and on Jan 24, 2022, in Braila wiht 17 deficiencies for five days.
