Repairs of collision damage completed
On May 23 the "Nordlys" set sail again after a thorough repair of six months and with the help of many volunteers at the Teerenstra shipyard where the ship has stood on dry land after the collision with the French f/v "Reine de l'Arvor - DZ.184984", 20 gt (MMSI: 227595240; CS: FT9339), on Oct 12, 2015. The "Nordlys" had been anchored in the Bay of Douarnenez waiting to be allowed into the port when the fishing vessel crashed into the stern.
Sailing vessel took in water
In the afternoon of Dec 16, 2015, the "Nordlys" of the foundation Fairtransport, being enroute from Brixham to Den Helder with a cargo of apple cider, suffered water ingress in the cargo hold while waiting for a tug off the port of Den Helder at anchor. Because it was feared that the own pump could not keep up with the flooding, the KNRM-station in Den Helder was requested for assistance. At that time the lifeboat "Royal Flush" from Harlingen, which was on trials, was about to enter the port of Den Helder for bunkering. Some crew members from Den Helder who were quick on scene together with a pump, were taken to the "Nordlys" by the "Royal Flush", while the skipper of the local lifeboat "Joke Dijkstra" was waiting for the rest of the crew. With the help of the Helder crewmembers the water ingress was quickly brought under control, before the "Joke Dijkstra" took the 20-m-ship in tow. The anchor was raised and then the "Nordlys" was pulled into the port of Den Helder. After the ordered tug arrived, the "Royal Flush" did not have to assist any longer and returned to Harlingen. AFter the towing line was taken over by the tug at the Moorman Bridge, also the "Joke Dijkstra" returned to her berth. Cargo sailing ship hit by fishing vessel
In the morning of Oct 12, 2015, around 7 a.m. the French f/v "Reine de l'Arvor - DZ.184984", 20 gt (MMSI: 227595240; CS: FT9339), on its return from a fishing trip to Rosmeur, slammed into the stern of the "Nordlys" which was at anchor in the Bay of Douarnenez. She was hit with a speed of 10 knots. The aft was destroyed, and the ship suffered water Ingress. The crew of nine was not injured. Hardly restored for two years, the "Nordlys" now must already be repaired. The SNSM-boat "Penn Sardinn" assisted the "Nordlys" and pulled it to a slipway at Rosmeur. The maneuver was tricky, as the wind was accompanied by a fairly large swell.
