Crowley’s third Ocean Class tug christened

Mon Aug 25 10:35:47 CEST 2014 arnekiel

Crowley Maritime Corporation recently held the christening ceremony for their tug 'Ocean Sky' in Houston, the third of their impressive Ocean Class series of four newbuild tugs. First of class, Ocean Wave entered service in 2012, followed by Ocean Wind, Ocean Sky and Ocean Sun. The newbuild programme has been a significant development in the North American tug building community and indeed beyond, and all four are now proving themselves through involvement with most major offshore production installations in the Gulf of Mexico as well as other notable assignments. Equipped to DP2 standard, the Ocean Sky, along with its sisters, were designed to work with Crowley’s new 455 series high deck strength barges. They are also outfitted for long-range, high capacity ocean towing; rig moves; platform and floating production FPSO tows; emergency response and fire-fighting. They have a minimum bollard pull of 150t, a range of 12,600 nautical miles and top speed of 15 knots. Propulsion is provided by a traditional twin-screw, controllable pitch propeller within nozzles arrangement and high lift rudders.

Crowley Christens New Dynamic Positioning Tugboat Ocean Sky

Sat Jul 26 09:06:15 CEST 2014 arnekiel

As part of the company's industry-leading new vessel build program, Crowley Maritime Corp. christened the third of four tugboats in the ocean class series – Ocean Sky –in Houston. The ceremony served to formally welcome the third dynamic positioning (DP) tugboat to the company's expanded ocean towing fleet, which has been involved in most of the major offshore oil production installations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico over the past 16 months. The Ocean Sky, which features DP2 technology, is part of a feature-rich, four-vessel family of tugs ideally suited to work with Crowley's new 455 series high-deck strength barges, which measure 400 feet long by 105 feet wide (121.92 meters by 32 meters). Crowley's ocean class tugs are outfitted for long-range high-capacity ocean towing; rig moves; platform and floating production; storage and offloading (FPSO) unit tows; emergency response and firefighting. All four of the ocean class tugboats are designed to have a minimum bollard pull of 150 metric tons and a range of approximately 12,600 nautical miles at 15 knots free running.
