Ship detained for 31 defiencies and social dumping

The Norwegian Maritime Directorate detained the "Ottar" in Sogn og Fjordane due to a number of defiencies found during an inspection aboard the ship in Måløy, both on Nov 20 and 21, 2018, after its arrival in port, coming from Lødingen, at 5.50 p.m. The police, the Norwegian Maritime Directorate and the Norwegian Seamen's Association have been on board to map the facts about the ship and the wages the crew, including two Philippine engineers. The list comprised 31 points, several of which were considered to be serious. The ship was overloaded and had a number of technical failures. In addition, relationships in contracts and formalities were not at stake. There was evidence that the two Philippine engineers, who were contracted in Tromsø in August, have 1,000 dollars in salary (under 9,000 Norwegian Crowns) which was far from the Norwegian engineer's minimum wage so that they already owed eight monthly wages from the shipping company. The ship was arrested until the deficiencies have been corrected. The company Havsula Invest AS received a list of the shortcomings on board.
