Ferry delayed due to medical emergency
An air ambulance has landed near the Isle of Wight ferry terminal following a medical emergency on the 'Red Osprey' on March 4, 2024. The Kent, Surrey and Sussex helicopter has landed near Red Funnel's car ferry terminal and Venture Quays. Police have also been called. The passengers remained onboard the 'Red Osprey' at East Cowes. There were delays of up to two hours due to the medical emergency.
Ferry suffered propulsion trouble
On Nov 18, 2023, the 'Red Osprey' has been pulled from service due to a fault on the propulsion unit. Passengers travelling to and from the Isle of Wight from Southampton were facing delays of up to three hours. The 10.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. sailings from Southampton and the midday sailing from East Cowes have been cancelled. The one boat service caused severe delays for all booked vehicle traffic.
Ferry suffered fire in galley
The 'Red Osprey' had an on board fire in the afternoon of Oct 20, 2021, as she just about to dock in Southampton. The passengers were forced to make their way to the car deck and don lifejackets as a small fire broke out in the galley of the vessel. The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was called to the Red Funnel’s Southampton terminal. A total of 6 fire appliances, 5 specialist vehicles and 7 officers have been sent to the scene alongside resources from South Central Ambulance Service – including the Hazard Area Response Team (HART). Associated British Ports wre also on scene. A number of crossings were cancelled as a result. On Oct 21 the ship returned to service.
