Medevac off Bréhat

Tue Oct 24 09:37:24 CEST 2023 Timsen

On Oct 20, 2023 at 1:04 p.m., the CROSS Jobourg relayed to the CROSS Corsen a call from the'Rix Amethyst', en route from Saint Malo to Bayonne, reporting a particularly unwell crew member. While the cargo ship, located 6,7 nautical miles from the coast of Bréhat, continued its voyage, after a medical consultation by telephone carried out at 1:13 p.m., the medevac of the sick sailor was decided. The CROSS Corsen then deployed a Caiman helicopter from the 33F flotilla, which took off from the Lanvéoc-Poulmic naval base, on board a medical team from the Finistère emergency medical aid service. The helicopter reached the ship at 2:35 p.m. and dropped off the medical personnel, which provided first aid on site. At 3:09 p.m., the medical team and the patient were hoisted aboard the helicopter which then set off towards the Cavale Blanche Hospital center in Brest, where the patient was taken care of at 3:45 p.m.

Oil spill in port of Brake

Tue Nov 12 09:22:43 CET 2013 Timsen

On Nov 11, 2013, about 300 liters diesel fuel were spilt from the "Fehn Mariner" into a basin of the Brake port at the Niedersachsen Quay. The Technical Help Work (THW) from Nordenham was called to collect the oil which spread on the Weser with the rising tide in the afternoon. The accident happened during bunkering operations of the ship which had loaded components of a wind farm and was bound for Barletta. A tank was overflowed at 1.45 p.m., and the diesel oil ran down from the deck before the refueling process could be stopped. The crew of the bunker boat alerted the water police who informed the Brake operating agency of the Office for Water Management, the Coastal Defence andthe Nature Conservation Agency (NLWKN), whose team finally alerted the THW which attended with a task force of 20 men and six vehicles with special equipment for oil pollution control. A representative of the shipping company was also on site. It was tried to recover the oil with absorbents, more was caught by a skimmer and collected in a container. The operation lasted until the evening. The cause of the oil spill was found to have been a human failure of the engineer of the "Fehn Mariner". He had to pay a security deposit of 3300 Euro after consultation with the District Court Brake. The ship sailed for Italy in the evening.
