Tanker breached in Arctic waters

Tue Sep 30 22:04:20 CEST 2014 Timsen

The "SCF Yenisei", being loaded with 27680 tons of crude oil, collided with an unknown underwater object on Sep 26, 2014, at 1230 LT in the Obskaya Guba Bay on the river Ob mouth at the Arctic coast. The vessel suffered breaches in the forepeak area, including a portside ballast tank, with ensuing water ingress. On Sep 27 the tanker moved to Sabietta for temporary repairs where the breaches were sealed by divers. On Sep 28 the vessel left Sabietta and headed for Murmansk.

Tanker detained for sailing Reef without charts (in 2013)

Thu Jul 24 08:30:04 CEST 2014 arnekiel

A tribunal has upheld a decision by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) to detain a tanker found to have sailed the Great Barrier Reef without appropriate navigational charts. The Liberian-flagged oil tanker, SCF Yenisei, was held for a day on 4 October 2013, in Mackay, Queensland, after sailing to Mackay via Hydrographers Passage from Kawasaki, Japan, without the required charts. Vessel manager Unicom Management Services (Cyprus) attempted to have the detention downgraded saying the breach was not serious. "Having the correct charts to navigate through the Great Barrier Reef, which is notoriously hazardous and of a high environmental significance, is critical to ensure the safety of the Reef, the ship and its crew," Allan Schwartz, AMSA Ship Safety Division General Manager said. This is the second appeal against an AMSA detention of a ship lacking the required navigational charts in as many years.

Large capacity tanker SCF Yenisei set out from Murmansk to Japan along NSR

Thu Aug 08 07:42:14 CEST 2013 arnekiel

On August 6, 2013, the Sovcomflot tanker Yenisei set out from Murmansk to Japan along the Northern Sea Route, the Group’s press center says. This 47,000-dwt vessel of MR type ice class Ice-1А (Arc4) will deliver light oil products to the port of Chiba (Japan). The distance of 5,767 nautical miles is 56% less than the route via the Suez Canal (12,840 miles). The tanker has been chartered by Glencore within the framework of a long-term cooperation with Sovcomflot through s joint venture on holding and managing the fleet of product carriers. The voyage is expected to last for three weeks including some 8 days along the Northern Sea Route. It is the fifth voyage of Sovcomflot via Arctic. The vessel will be assisted by one of nuclear icebreakers of Atomflot FSUE. The tanker is to arrive in Chiba on August 29-31, 2013.
