Tug to be salvaged for investigation
The "Sea Bear" which sank last month off Fire Island, killing a co-captain who did not don an immersion suit, will be salvaged to aid the Coast Guard investigation. George Wittich, an executive with Wittich Bros. Marine Inc. of Brielle, New Jersey, owner of the lost vessel, the 23-year-old Sea Bear, said last week that a contract has been signed to raise the 65-foot tug as soon as weather permits.
1 Dead, 3 Rescued After Tugboat Sinks Off Fire Island
A missing person on a tug boat that sank off of Long Island’s Fire Island has been found dead, according to the Coast Guard. Coast Guard Petty Officer Morgan Gallapis said the search for the missing crew members of the Sea Bear began Saturday afternoon after a crew member reported the tugboat was sinking. “They called the vessel traffic service saying they were taking on water and they were about to enter the water themselves in their survival suits,” Mark Averill with the Coast Guard told WCBS 880’s Monica Miller. Missing person on the tug boat that sank off of Long Island has been found dead according the Coast Guard.
