Tug and barge allided with bridge
The 'Washington' (746 gt, built 1968) allided with the Carrol Lee Cropper Road Bridge along Interstate I-275 in Northern Kentucky , which isconnecting Boone County, Ky. and Lawrenceburg, while proceeding on the Ohio River between northern Kentucky and southeastern Indiana on Jan 28, 2020, at 4 a.m. The tug was heading northbound on the river, towing 15 hopper coal barges, when it struck the bridge, causing some of the barges to separate from the tow and float downstream. There were no reported injuries and traffic on the river was not affected. Bridge inspectors of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet checked the bridge and reported no damages. The bridge and highway remained open. The US Coast Guard continued to investigate the incident.
