Crew of sinking trawler saved
The 'WŁA 67 issued a mayday call on Jan 9 at 5 p.m. The contact then broke off, and the ship sank 11 nautical miles from Władysławowo on Jan 9, 2022. The crew was found by a Polish Navy helicopter which was on an exercise nearby and soon on site. In wind force 5 it was difficult to pick them up from a life raft, so the SAR boat 'Bryza' was vectored in and took them aboard. No one was injured despite the fact that the fishermen did not have time to put on survival suits as the ship capsized and sank too fast. At 6:40 p.m. the rescue ship reached Władysławowo with the crew. Other units, the f/v 'UST 204', the f/v 'WLA 116', the 'SG 111' Border Guard patrol ship and the ferry 'Stena Spirit' also participated in the SAR operation. The castaways were reunited with their families after refusing medical assistance.
