Latvian crew member lost over board
A 55-year old Latvian crew member of the 'Elandra Baltic' fell six meter deep in the sea in the morning of April 13, 2020, while fixing the fallreep to take the pilot on board uuon the arrival at Fos-sur-mer from agio Theodoroi. An SAR operation was launched with The Dragon 131 helicopter of the Marignane civil security, two pilot boats from the Grand Maritime Port of Marseille (GPMM), the SNSM speedboat from Carro, as well as a semi-rigid of the Marseille firefighters from the barracks of Port of Bouc, but the man was not found despite calm weather on scene. In the afternoon the search was suspended. The tanker was moored at the anchorage of Fos-sur-mer.
Latvijas Kugnieciba AS takes delivery of tanker Zemgale from Hyundai Mipo
Latvian shipping company LSC took delivery of its latest new build tanker, Zemgale, from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd shipyard in Korea. This completes the first stage of its fleet renewal programme. Over the last six years LSC has been able to reduce the average age of their fleet from 17.5 years to 5 years now, which is a prerequisite for competitiveness in the global market. Zemgale is the second new tanker of LSC fleet received in summer 2011. The new tanker is 52000 DWT, it is intended to move oil and chemicals around the world, including the seas and oceans of ice regions.
