ALGOMA GUARDIAN 8505850

While carrying a cargo of grain tje "Algoma Guardian" ran aground in the St. Lawrence River west of Montreal on Oct 19, 2010. The ship began floating out of the main shipping channel toward the Quebec municipality of Saint-Zotique, east of the Quebec-Ontario border just after 1:30 p.m. The vessel has been towed away by tug boats, to clear the way for vessels picking up and transporting goods along the river. It was pulled to a nearby spot and anchored while divers conduct an investigation to determine the source of the problem. The freighter was traveling east along the river when it ran into trouble. It was not yet clear how long it will take before the ship is operational again. St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp. and Transport Canada are investigating.
