All three Mexican crude-loading ports on Gulf Coast closed by storms

Mon Dec 07 10:20:39 CET 2015 arnekiel

All three of Mexico’s Gulf Coast crude-loading ports — Pajaritos, Dos Bocas and Cayo Arcas — were closed to shipping as a severe cold front swept through the region with winds of up to 70 kph and 14-foot waves, the Ministry of Communications and Transportation reported. The only Mexican crude-loading port still open was Salina Cruz, on the Pacific Coast, which ships cargoes to Asian clients of state-owned Pemex. Pajaritos ships petrochemicals in addition to crude. It also handles refined products, as does Dos Bocas. The petrochemicals port of Altamira and the refined products port of Tuxpan were open to shipping Friday after two days of being closed. Both are located much further north on the Gulf Coast from the crude-loading ports. An official at the harbormaster’s office at Dos Bocas told Platts that two tankers are loaded with crude, but trapped by the storms. Both are bound for the US. One will sail for Houston while the other’s exact destination is as yet unknown, the source said. At Pajaritos, one laden tanker heading for Houston is trapped by the bad weather. Source: Platts

Bad Weather Closes 3 Major Mexican Oil Ports

Wed Jan 07 10:28:02 CET 2015 arnekiel

Three of Mexico's major oil export ports along the Gulf coast have been closed due to bad weather, the Communications and Transport Ministry said on Tuesday, Jan. 6 Cayo Arcas, Dos Bocas and Coatzacoalcos have been closed since Sunday. Nearly all of Mexico's crude exports from Pemex, the state-owned oil producer, are shipped from the three ports to Gulf coast refineries in the U.S. states of Texas and Louisiana.

Two of Mexico’s oil export ports reopen after Dolly downgraded

Fri Sep 05 08:19:39 CEST 2014 arnekiel

Two of Mexico’s three main oil exporting ports in the Gulf of Mexico, Dos Bocas and Cayo Arcas, were reopened on Wednesday (Sept. 3) after major storm Dolly was downgraded, the country’s communications and transport ministry said in a statement. Dolly, which was previously a tropical storm, weakened to remnant status on Wednesday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory. Mexico’s third major oil hub, Coatzacoalcos, was never closed despite strong winds and rainfall associated with Dolly. The country’s Tampico and Altamira ports, however, have been closed since Tuesday due to bad weather, the ministry added. Almost all of Mexico’s crude oil exports are shipped to refineries on the Gulf Coast of the United States from the Dos Bocas, Coatzacoalcos and Cayo Arcas ports. State-owned oil company Pemex is the third biggest supplier of crude to the United States. Source: Reuters (Reporting by David Alire Garcia; Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)
