Ship Tracking with Google Earth

Google Earth is an application from the Google Corporation. With Google Earth, you have an aerial view of the earth and can observe items in form of satellite images.

At vesseltracker.com we use Google Earth for real time ship tracking. The position data we receive from our AIS network is integrated into the satellite images of Google Earth. Given the high resolution of images and easy navigation, you can track your ships easily with this solution.

Normally, the data is displayed on your screen with a 2 - minute delay. Thus, if you are located at the coast, you can see a ship pass by on Google Earth and in the real world simultaneously.

The transmitted AIS positions data is so accurate that the exact location and position of the ships in port are easily determined. In the picture on the left you see the vessels "TINA", "PLANET V" and "MS PARTNERSHIP" at the Burchardkai Terminal in Hamburg.

Our geographic database also contains data on ports and berths, therefore the name of the current berth can be displayed on each ship.

With the integrated search function you can easily find the vessel you are looking for, wherever it is currently located.

For each ship comprehensive additional information, such as speed, draught, course and correct direction is displayed.

With the help of our Geo-database, the current and destination ports are also displayed.

Browser-based Map View

For people who cannot or do not want to install an external application for ship tracking, we provide data on ships positions on a map which can be viewed directly on the web, with Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.

You can either choose a satellite map or normal road map. In both views the ships' exact positions are displayed normally with a 2 - minute delay.

For the browser based map view, we use Microsoft Virtual Earth. For best results, we recommend the use of Internet Explorer 7 or Mozilla Firefox version 1.5 or greater.

Ship information in Tabular Form

For ship agents and others who need to make plans for vessels in a port, we also provide ship information in tabular form. We have a list containing moving and mooring vessels in each region.

For the moving vessels, we show the last way point which was passed (e.g. Brunsbüttel, Glückstadt or Stade) and the time when it was passed.

In the table of moored vessels we show the current port and berth for each ship.

Vessel Archive with photos

In our Vessel Archive you can easily find information on all the ships that ever visited one of our covered areas. You can browse the archive which is in tabular form or use our search function.

For most of the ship we also have photographs which have been uploaded by our users. If you have some photos of ships which we could missing, you can upload them onto our system.

For all vessels which are currently in range of our AIS network, the current positions are directly displayed on our vessel's archive. With this feature you can check the positions of your ships easily without having to launch Google Earth first.

For customers with Company Account, we provide additional information on a ship's used routes for the last 24 hours.

Automatic Alerting via E-Mail or SMS

We understand that you have no time to look into our system all day only to await arrival of some ships? We therefore provide automatic vessel alerting via e-mail and SMS (Short message service), so that you never miss a ship's arrival, even when you are travelling.

We notify you when the ship enters a port or a region which is of interest to you.
