Fuel spill during oil discharge

Sat Nov 21 17:28:35 CET 2020 Timsen

In the afternoon of Nov 19, 2020, a slight fuel spill occurred during discharge operations of the 'Heydar Aliyev' l by a connection flange at Boe Sarpom Terminal's submerged main line near the Sarpom buoy park in the waters off Savona. A technical problem, related to the tightness of a hose used for the delivery of fuel during the refueling of the 'Heydar Aliyev' caused the release of the oil. Recovery operations were immediately started. Antipollution services in the area arrived quickly, coordinated by the Harbour Master, and laid floating barriers and absorbent materials. The leak was circumscribed in a short time by nautical services, and the diving service promptly stopped the leak by securing the connections. Checks by the Coast Guard of the spilled fuel in the Savona sea. The tanker which had come from Ceyhan was headed to Bouri with an ETA as of Nov 22.
