LNG carrier holed in collision

Mon Feb 27 11:43:23 CET 2017 Timsen

The "Al Kahttiya" was damaged in a collision with the "Jag Laadki" which struck the moored LNG tanker on Fujairah Anchorage, in the Gulf of Oman, on Feb 23, 2017. Two ballast tanks were breached, but there was no pollution. The hull was punctured above and below the waterline on its starboard side and the deck breached, dented and bent. The ship dropped anchor on Fujairah roads on Feb 23, having previously sailed from Thamesport on Feb 6. The ship was in the process of burning the remains of LNG which were still within the pressure tanks, despite the fact that in principle they were empty. Only when the ship is absolutely empty of LNG, it may be allowed to proceed to port for repairs.
