Ship arrested due to claims

Mon Jan 07 11:10:25 CET 2013 Timsen

The Kerala High Court in an admiralty suit filed by the Chennai-based Tradex Shipping Company Pvt Ltd., has arrested the "Amet Majesty" at Kochi Port. The petitioner company was registered with the International Maritime Organization, and a license has been issued by the Director General of Shipping for recruitment placing service with international safety management to supply crew members, including that of the Captain, Chief Engineer and other officers on agreed terms. Even though the petitioner has raised appropriate commercial invoices for manning the crew members for the vessel, the owners failed to settle the same, owing to their financial contingencies. It was alleged in the admiralty suit that the owners of the vessel had failed to remit the Sea Men’s Provident Fund and administrative charges to the Sea Men’s Provident Fund Commissioner. The Director General of Shipping had initiated coercive steps against the Chennai-based company, which prompted them to invoke the admiralty jurisdiction of the Kerala High Court and get the vessel arrested on Jan 7, 2013. The court directed the Deputy Conservator of the port to arrest the vessel until the owners of the vessel furnish the bank guarantee of the claim amount before the Registrar of the High Court of Kerala.

Indian Amet Cruiseship "Amet Majesty" abandons Kochi for Chennai

Fri Apr 27 08:17:24 CEST 2012 arnekiel

Even as Kochi continues to be the hottest cruise destination, it never seems to succeed as a cruising base. After Louis Cruise, now it’s the turn of Amet Cruises to bid adieu to Kochi. Chennai-based Amet Cruises has decided on April 26, 2012 to terminate its services based in Kochi. The vessel Amet Majesty, which the company was using for services in Kochi, will sail off Kochi waters on May 27 to Lakshadweep, from where it will head for Chennai. Amet Majesty has been lying idle at the port for the past two months. According to the company authorities, they are terminating services, as the season in Kochi is over and is planning to shift services to Chennai only. Asked why the schedule is not being renewed, they did not give a clear answer. “We have done 20 sailings so far. A service to Lakshadweep is scheduled on May 27 and after that the ship will be based in Chennai. It will come back to Kochi in the next season,” they said. However, sources in the port management and shipping industry revealed that Amet’s Kochi services were not a success financially. There were not enough passengers, said a top official of the Cochin Port Trust.
