Medevac off Port Elizabeth

Tue Sep 27 10:09:33 CEST 2016 Timsen

On Sep 26, 2016, at 6.53 p.m. the NSRI Port Elizabeth was activated following a request by a ships agent to rendezvous with the "Anangel Seafarer", sailing from Singapore to Brazil, to medevac a 36 year old Greek sailor who had suffered a left hand injury. The NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew requested the assistance of the Transnet National Ports Authority pilot boat and an NSRI Port Elizabeth rescue team, with extrication equipment and accompanied by an EC Government Health EMS rescue paramedic, rendezvoused with the bulk carrier two miles off Port Elizabeth and found the patient to be walking wounded and in a stable condition with his hand, suffering a fractured middle finger and lacerations, bandaged by his ships medics. The patient was transferred onto the pilot boat and brought into Port and he has been transported to hospital by the ships agent for further treatment.
