Medevac off Sagar Island

Fri May 18 11:53:51 CEST 2018 Timsen

A Peruvian crew member of the "AS Valentia" was rescued by the Indian Coast Guard around 80 km from Sagar Island in the morning of May 17, 2018, after he fell ill on board the ship. Huayllaccahua Godoy Victor had been suffering from a severe abdominal pain and running a temperature since the prevoius afternoon. The Coastguard headquarters in Calcutta received an evacuation request for Victor from the master of the "AS Valentia" around noon on May 17. The authorities asked the Coastguard vessel "Amogh", which was 180 km south of the "AS Valentia" to dovert to the cargo ship which could not navigate shallow waters and sailed toward Haldia. The patrol boat reached the ship in the evening but could only transfer Victor to their vessel in the morning because of strong winds, which turned the sea choppy. The cargo ship, carrying a cargo of coal, had come from Indonesia and was bound to Haldia after a stopover in Paradip in Odisha, when Victor fell ill.
